Holly’s Autistic Journey

Holly was diagnosed as autistic at 20 months of age after 5 months of paediatric investigations.

Holly’s diagnosis was no shock.

After Holly turned 1, it was like a light switched and she became a different child overnight.

She stopped acknowledging when her name was called. She stopped giving anyone eye contact. She stopped talking.

At 16 months of age Holly began speech therapy and physiotherapy.

We started the process of applying for NDIS funding. We got matched up with an incredible ECEI coordinator who recognised straight away that something was going on with Holly and that she would need long term support.

In January 2020, Holly was assessed for Autism at the ASPECT Baulkham Hills office and was diagnosed by their specially trained neuropsychologist. It was a welcome relief for us as having the diagnosis meant we could get the necessary funding to make sure Holly has all the supports necessary.

Holly now does speech, Physiotherapy, OT and music therapy. All have contributed to the incredible progress she has made the last 12-18 months.

My family are so thankful to ASPECT for assessing and diagnosing Holly which ensured she got the help and support needed.

Ride for Autism is important to us. We are doing it to help increase understanding & inclusion of autistic people.

I'm riding for....

I’m riding for autism to help create a world where no-one on the autism spectrum is left behind.

I've set my challenge and I'll be riding from Sunday 4 - 11 July while raising much needed funds to support people on the autism spectrum.

An estimated 1 in every 70 people is on the spectrum. Along with their family members, this means autism is a part of daily life for over a million Australians.

People on the spectrum see, hear, feel and experience the world differently. For many, simply coping with the everyday can lead to confusion, anxiety and isolation.

By coming together and taking action, we can help provide opportunities for people on the autism spectrum to participate, engage and thrive in the world around them.
