Riding for our boys
Hi everyone reading this. I'm a mum of five. Two of our four boys have autism and struggle in every aspect of life. Both were diagnosed late in their childhood and missed out on a lot of early intervention. They were also placed in out of home care with foster carers which made their anxiety worse. Our eldest is unable to withstand loud noises and has severe sensory issues. He also has no sensenof boundary and used to constantly run off. Our second youngest is less severe but has a degree of difficulty in the classroom and struggles to make friends. It breaks my heart to see the way they go through their lives so I'm riding for them. Perhaps we can find a cure for Autism if we try hard enough. I'm also riding for a special friends boy who has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. He doesn't have autism, in fact his condition is life ending and I'm not afraid to put an unrelated condition on here.I'm riding for....
I’m riding for autism to help create a world where no-one on the autism spectrum is left behind.
I've set my challenge and I'll be riding from Sunday 4 - 11 July while raising much needed funds to support people on the autism spectrum.
An estimated 1 in every 70 people is on the spectrum. Along with their family members, this means autism is a part of daily life for over a million Australians.
People on the spectrum see, hear, feel and experience the world differently. For many, simply coping with the everyday can lead to confusion, anxiety and isolation.
By coming together and taking action, we can help provide opportunities for people on the autism spectrum to participate, engage and thrive in the world around them.
